Party wild, study hard: life in college

Publication date:

Do you know the secret of a truly fulfilling time at a university? You should be able to find the golden middle and live in the epicenter of buzzing student life!

First year is the easiest

You can slack off a bit if you are a freshman, and that’s completely justified. We don’t say you should lose control and go bananas on your first party night, but newbies are usually allowed more than senior students. They are young and full of energy, they've never tasted the residence type of accommodation and they are open to all sorts of impressions, so basically campus assistants forgive them for their crazy flights. Go out to meet people, socialize and adjust to the surroundings - that's the kind of routine that’s expected from you on the first year.

Forget about the age

We've noticed there's so much hype about the age these days, with people arguing about whether students over 25 are eligible to the freshmen parties. From the bottom of our hearts we say - age is nothing more than a number, and you shouldn’t worry about not being accepted in a company where the oldest guy is twenty. We've heard a lot of stories where a five-year gap didn't play any part, or better to say, no one even cared whether you are twenty four or twenty.

It gets better with time

Once your first year is over, you realize there is nothing that can stop you from being on top of your class. You make new friends and you know what the teachers are like, at least in their office hours. With fellow students that are on the same level as you are, you can easily borrow a note if you skip a lecture and generally feel at home. For those who love having a team spirit, there is a fraternity in college that always makes you feel at ease. Yes, studies are more complex, but that’s going to be worth it.

Social media helps

Social media is what connects us with the world. Been away from home for too long? You can always use Skype to see your friends and relatives. There is even a special term called media parenting, that shows how students and their parents communicate while the child is abroad. If you are studying at the international university, you also get to meet a lot of people. Add them on Facebook and create a study group so that learning becomes more fun. All the gigs, events and rad concerts won't start till you get in, or at least, till your friends inform you, and that is a huge plus of any social media tools.

Choose the part-time job to do

It is a reliable way to make new friends and explore new horizons. Apart from raking some cash in, you also get to know a lot of people and gain experience. Nothing looks better on your resume than having an employment time at, say, one of your local cafes. You shouldn't look down on jobs like this, however, as they give plenty of space for personal growth, which is not a bad thing once you are in college. Also, it is important to plan your social life so you don’t have to be near that tight line when there's no money left for savings. Yes, it may sound like a tedious routine, but believe us, most of the graduates who did manage to pay off interest on their student loan, are now deeply thankful. They are free of any debt and can manage their lives without having to deny themselves pleasures like parties and clubs. A fine lesson for those who are tearing between celebrations and tests.
