Learning How to Recycle

If you decide to recycle things, it is already great, but you also need to know how to do it right. You can find the list of most popular recyclables with instructions on how to recycle them.

Paper

Almost 30% of all recyclables constitutes a paper, and it also shows the highest percentage of recycling. Thus, Americans recycled almost 65% of used paper in 2014. We use a lot of text materials when we are students, and the majority of them are printed on paper. For example, you spent at least 50 sheets of paper in the process of your research paper writing, it is quite likely, so that it is a good idea to recycle them and save trees. Another good idea is to buy things, made of recycled papers when you go shopping.

Batteries

A lot of batteries from your smartphones, computers etc. may contain heavy metals, so that it will be wrong to throw them away together with other rubbish. Here is what you can do instead:

Plastics

We use a huge number of plastic materials, yet not all of them are recycled. Actually, only about 10% of all plastics is recycled in America. What is more, only certain types of plastics can be recycled. As a result, it is a good idea to choose plastic bottles and containers, made of recycled materials.

Glass

Glass can be recycled and used over and over again. What is more, to make new glass from recycled one is far cheaper than from raw materials. So that do not be indifferent and join your local program of glass recycling.

Used Oil

Please do not dump oil down the drain as you can contaminate fresh water, and, as a result, shorten your water supply. What is more, you need almost 40 times less used oil than crude one to produce 2.5 quarts of new motor oil. By recycling used oil rather than throwing it, you also help America to be less dependent on oil from abroad. Thus, do not hesitate to bring that used oil to any store, which sells motor oil, as there is a high probability that it accepts used oil for recycling.

Household Hazardous Waste

Such products as paint, oils, pesticides, batteries, cleaners etc. contain a lot of harmful substances, and here is what you can do with them:

Tires

Tires are quite dangerous, as they can catch up on fire, and a lot of rodents live in them so that it is recommended to recycle them if there is such an opportunity. Thus, do not hesitate to give your old tires for recycling once you have new tires installed. There are several options of how you can do this. First of all, it is possible to give your old tires to tire retailor. Secondly, you can bring them to special places, where old tires are accepted. Finally, it is possible that your community will hold a special event on collecting tires.
